Don't stop going to those local tournaments! Not only are local tournaments great for supporting your TKD community, but they are also a perfect testing ground for new techniques, tactics, and strategy. Treat them just like any other practice day and go through the same steps you would at the larger national and international ones. It's a great way to mentally prep for the bigger stages. Coach ...

    A real counter to the "cut kick" is when you see the opponent with the lead leg up, his back leg is exposed. Move 45 degrees forward and punish him with a REAL CUT KICK, which is a low hard roundhouse to his support leg.

    • @tomchong2047
      @tomchong2047 4 года назад

      Edwin Verzosa the problem with that is it is illegal in tkd

    • @edwinverzosa7655
      @edwinverzosa7655 4 года назад

      @@tomchong2047 the problem with this "cut kick" is that its NOT A CUT KICK. ITS MORE OF A HOPPING SIDE KICK. The purpose of a REAL CUT KICK is to inflict maximum damage to your opponents exposed leg when one is raised or to cut your opponents base from underneath him

    • @tomchong2047
      @tomchong2047 4 года назад

      Edwin Verzosa it depends on which type of cut kick you are attempting to do. I like to hop when going for combos as it confuses the opponent. But a hard sharp one is good for picking up 2 points. The style of Tkd in this video is Olympic style and in Olympic style leg kicks r illegal. I can’t see why your 🤷‍♂️

    • @edwinverzosa7655
      @edwinverzosa7655 4 года назад

      Try that "cut kick" in an actual fight. Youll get dead legged

    • @tomchong2047
      @tomchong2047 4 года назад

      Edwin Verzosa 🤦‍♂️it’s not meant to be used in a street fight. In tkd fight you can’t get dead legged. In a street fight I would be using other techniques

    My coach is focusing too much on the kicks, however the footwork is actually the most critical part of every martial arts/sparring sports.

      Hmm... I would say there is a balance. Footwork is VERY important, yes. But unless your leg is as agile as your arm, and unless you can lift up your front leg and kick (front, round, side, hook) with zero telegraph, and the same amount of power as a rear leg kick... then there is still potential for significant improvement. So both are important :) PS this video is nice. Subscribed!

    Doing this kind of drills every training. I found myself that : Exelent technic, High Agility plus high coordination training the best for TKD. Sure power is also important, but first you need to hit clean and fast. Doing TKD for like 21 Years and still love it, and love to learn more about.
